Heres one of me almost losing, then gettin 'Checkmate' on the computer.

each piece has a different kind of move.



you king only can move one square in each direction.



you take turns during the game, and the goal is to get your opponent in 'check'.



check means that you have put their king 'in harms way'. (someone moved within striking range of the king, in other words their next move would be a kill)



if they can safely protect or move their king, they are safe. but if they cant then its checkmate and you win. (by the way when you are in check you HAVE to move only whatever it takes to get out of check, you are not aloud to move anything else but the king or what would save the king)




all pieces you have 2 of except the king and queen which you have one of. like i said the king can only move 1 square in each direction. the queen can move in every direction also, but as far as she wants 'in a straight line'.


the only other piece you dont have 2 of is the pawn, which is your basic unit. they can move two spaces or 1 space for their first move, then after that only one space. they can only move up (forward, but not through characters). they can only attack foward+diagonally.



knights move like and L and rooks move like the queen but only left right up and down (not diagonally). and finally bishops move in a straight line also as far as they can go but ONLY diagonally.



if thats hard to understand, which im sure it probably is, you can watch / read tutorials on it.
